Movie Critique

This is a scene from one of my favorite movies, Cube.  During this scene the group of protagonists come upon a trapped room that is activated by sound.  Most of the rooms in the film give the watcher a sense of openness while still being confining, but during this scene, the director uses the blue color of the room, and almost complete absence of sound to create a sense of weight and nervousness in the observer. I've shown this film to friends and they all had the same reaction during this scene, they actually held their breath out of sheer nervousness, they didn't want to make a sound either, as if they were in the room with the characters.

Another aspect of the silence is that it create a sort of non-existent rhythm, the silence is almost like a single note has been struck on an instrument and held.  This is also a form of tension and release,
